Seasonal Greetings

12 | 12 | 2020 – 05 | 04 | 2021

The billboards located on Seestraße, the main thoroughfare in Bregenz, are an integral part of the program at Kunsthaus Bregenz, extending each exhibition at KUB into public space.

“At the beginning of every exhibition, I make a photographic work in the form of a self-portrait that is representative of the content and aesthetics of the exhibition and which is intended to convey it in a consciously striking manner,” explains Jakob Lena Knebl. Seasonal Greetings is a double portrait, from 2017, of Jakob Lena Knebl and Ashley Hans Scheirl. The work represents one of the floors of their exhibition that they are staging together at Kunsthaus Bregenz, and corresponds to the exhibition's title of the same name. The motif quotes traditional Christmas greeting cards, popular in the USA, together with erotically charged Halloween masquerades. The KUB Billboards display the image in six different sections, consequently only hinting at the portrait's explicit content.
