Earth building by Martin Rauch | Excursion

For her exhibition at KUB, Nigerian-born artist Otobong Nkanga worked closely with Vorarlberg clay construction expert Martin Rauch. What they have in common is an interest in clay and in the relationships between people, the environment, and history. Clay has been used as an ecologically valuable building material for thousands of years. Clay building pioneer Martin Rauch will use regional and international project examples to show how we can build sustainably with clay. As a highlight of the excursion we will visit the new ERDEN factory building in Schlins, production site for industrially prefabricated rammed earth elements and impressive example of their application in the commercial sector. In addition, Martin Rauch will talk about the exhibition at Kunsthaus Bregenz and the collaboration with artist Otobong Nkanga. Talk with Olayinka Idowu Kareem

Nigerian economist Olayinka Idowu Kareem is an expert in development economics, agriculture and food policy. Among other things, he worked as a consultant for the Commercial Agriculture Development Project in the World Bank's country office in Nigeria. With Thomas D. Guided tour and excursion to the DORNIER Technology Center

Otobong Nkanga's large-format tapestries were produced on a rapier weaving machine developed by the Lindau-based company DORNIER at the TextielMuseum in Tilburg, Netherlands. After a guided tour through the exhibition at KUB, visitors will be given an exclusive insight into the development and production of weaving machines at the company's technology center.
